Brantley Gilbert Reaches Out in New Single "Stone Cold Sober"
Brantley Gilbert released his latest album Just As I Am in 2014, followed by a Platinum Edition
in 2015. The Platinum Edition includes additional songs, with "Stone Cold Sober" as his newest
single.
Sonically it fits right in with the songs on the original release - basically it's a rock ballad and was
probably excluded from the album due to there being enough ballads. It's big on guitars and
pounding drums layered with interesting lyrics but even with the bad boy imagery of guns, tattoos
and always a serious face, Brantley still writes and sings thoughtful songs. Actually, he wrote or
co-wrote every song on both versions of the album, showcasing his vulnerable side.
Brantley continues to carve his own niche in country music, and "Stone Cold Sober" continues
along that path - he ventures just outside of what everyone else is doing in the genre and
pushes the boundaries further into hard rock.
Brantley fans will be happy with this choice for a single because while on the heavy rock side,
he is still able open up a little more - the story in the song is about a drunk dial to a girl that may
have gone too far. Not being another drinking song for the airwaves, as Brantley has been quite open and honest about his own troubled past with alcohol, he reveals his
true feelings to her - he's sober now and all he wants is her.
I can't promise you forever
All I know is I still want you to come over
And I'm stone cold sober
If you're a Brantley Gilbert fan, and especially if you're a fan of Just As I Am, you will love this
song.
