David Fanning hopes solo success is “What’s Next” with new single
David Fanning, the producer, already has a successful career. He (as a part of New Voice Entertainment) has produced three - three! - #1 songs: Thompson Square’s “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have you” and Parmalee's “Carolina." And he’s still only in his 20’s! But to find success on a personal level – as a solo artist – has been a bit of an uphill climb. Fanning is hoping to get closer to the peak with the release of his third career single, “What’s Next.”
The mid-tempo “What’s Next” tells the story of two people who spot each other at a party, and after a while of getting to know each other, the guy urges for them to get out of there so he could show her what the rest of their evening could entail:
You got my heartbeat beat bumpin’ out of my chest
The way you’re looking girl in that bright red dress
Whatcha think about goin’ somewhere else, Kick it by ourselves
Laid back baby we can count the starlit sky
We ain’t even gotta slow down time
We still gotta whole lotta night still left
So let me show you what’s next
While listening to the song, one senses a heavy Florida Georgia Line feel to it, and it’s not surprising, as Fanning co-wrote the song with 2015 SESAC Songwriter of the Year winner Cary Barlowe (co-writer of FGL’s “Sun Daze”) and James Moore. There’s also an underlying R&B/Rockish influence (complete with echo machine) which isn’t all that surprising given that Fanning (who also co-produced the track) has covered Justin Timberlake’s “Drink You Away.”
Overall it’s a fun song with a catchy beat to sing along to, but it’s a bit more of the same that we've been hearing for some time. “What’s Next” will hit Country Radio on December 7, and is available for purchase on all outlets.
