SKYVILLE Live Rocks Time After Time: Groundbreaking Live Music Show Welcomed Pop Music Icon with Cou
New country sensation Kelsea Ballerini and indie pop star Ingrid Michaelson complete all-star lineup
Nashville, TN -- On the January 28 edition of SKYVILLE LIVE, Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award winner Cyndi Lauper qualified as well for Understatement of the Year honors.
Midway through the show, after several standing ovations, the legendary entertainer scanned the studio audience and observed, "Well, we're doing good so far."
In fact, Lauper and her guest artists, country star-on-the-rise Kelsea Ballerini and innovative singer/songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, filled the hour-long program with one unforgettable performance after the other as viewers online around the world savored every moment live via the free mobile video platform go90 and AOL.com.
As a nod toward Nashville, home of SKYVILLE LIVE, Lauper sang several country music classics from her upcoming new album, Detours, sharing that the songs were "from a time period when blues and country walked hand in hand, before Elvis cut the door down."
Lauper opened the show with Ray Price's "Heartaches By The Number," delivering the tune with the panache and rockabilly posturing of a honky-tonk diva, followed later by "Walking After Midnight," set to a tried-and-true country shuffle. Ballerini paid her respects with a heartbreaking interpretation of Eddy Arnold's "Make The World Go Away." And in one of the evening's true high points, accompanying herself on keyboard, Michaelson presented a deeply emotional rendition of "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You."
All three women rocked the room with their own material, performing solo and in combinations. Playing dulcimer and backed by the stellar SKYVILLE LIVE band, Lauper proved beyond doubt why her voice is one of the great instruments of modern popular music on "True Colors." Then, joined onstage by Ballerini and midway through the song by Michaelson, she closed with her anthem "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" as balloons bounced and tumbled throughout the audience.
SKYVILLE LIVE has featured an array of renowned artists since its debut in January 2015, including Gladys Knight, Gregg Allman, Brandy Clark, Jason Isbell, Kris Kristofferson, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Taj Mahal, Chris Stapleton and more.
Filmed in full HD video, the groundbreaking series has been honored with three Midsouth Emmy Award nominations, in the Audio, Director/Program and Entertainment categories.
SKYVILLE LIVE is executive produced by famed songwriter, producer and Grammy nominee Wally Wilson, who has written songs for and worked with legendary artists such as Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Joan Baez, Patty Loveless and Joe Cocker.
