Josh Abbott Band and Carly Pearce Deliver One Powerful Duet In “Wasn’t That Drunk”
When a band is able to release back to back singles that represent the versatility of their
material, they also show a broader range of their talents and that’s just what Josh Abbott Band
has done. “Amnesia,” the first single off their critically acclaimed album Front Row Seat, was a dark, depressing track that described one’s desire to completely forget the existence of another after much heartache, while their new single “Wasn’t That Drunk” delivers the polar opposite of that – recounting the start of a relationship.
Every track of the album tells a personal part of Abbott’s relationship with his ex-wife, but
“Wasn’t That Drunk” taken on its own is easily applicable to anyone who’s ever realized he or
she is falling for someone and used alcohol to cover up their exact feelings. But there comes a
moment when you want the other person to know how you really feel, as described perfectly in
the chorus:
I know we were laughing saying whatever happens
We can blame it on the wine when the sun comes up
If you’re thinking it’s because we were drinking
Well that don’t mean that it don’t mean much
‘Cause it did, and it does
The truth of it is, I wasn’t that drunk
While the dialogue between the two characters is very visual, it’s the singing of Abbott and the
amazingly talented Carly Pearce that really brings the story to life. Their voices complement
each other flawlessly; creating a desire between them that is very believable. The presence of
the fiddle throughout the song adds a wonderful flow while Pearce also has a chance to
showcase her vocal power, especially towards the end of the second verse.
“Wasn’t That Drunk” is available on all outlets and will hit country radio March 21.
