Glen Campbell Family To Celebrate The Music Legend's 80th Birthday With Special Edition Of Touri
JIMMY WEBB: THE GLEN CAMPBELL YEARS – HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLEN Tuesday, May 3 at 7 pm at City Winery in Nashville Tickets on Sale Thursday, March 17
NASHVILLE, TN – On Tuesday, May 3 at 7 pm at City Winery in Nashville, songwriter Jimmy Webb brings the national touring show JIMMY WEBB: THE GLEN CAMPBELL YEARS to Nashville for a special edition of the multi-media concert celebrating Glen Campbell’s 80th birthday. This very personal performance celebrates the musical brotherhood of Webb and Campbell and the legacy of music they created together, including virtual duets and stories of how those iconic songs came to be. Each night on the tour, Webb pays homage to his friend and collaborator, a longtime musical hero whose impact on American families now extends to his role as one of the most public faces of Alzheimer’s disease. For the May 3 performance, Webb will be joined by three of Glen’s children – Ashley, Shannon, and Cal – to perform a song commemorating Glen Campbell’s 80th birthday (April 22, 1936). “I created this show to honor my friend and collaborator. Now I am very happy to be performing it in Nashville, home of so many good friends, to help celebrate Glen’s 80th birthday. I know that Glen would want us to concentrate on having a good time and enjoying the music,” said Webb. “Ashley, Shannon and Cal are tremendous musicians, they take after their dad. I am glad to have them as part of this one-night only performance.” “Our family is elated to have Glen’s lifelong friend and favorite songwriter Jimmy Webb honor him with a musical tribute at City Winery as Nashville celebrates Glen’s 80th birthday. It’s sure to be an evening we will never forget!” said Glen Campbell’s wife, Kim Campbell. A gifted composer whose complicated chords and song structures could not be performed by just anybody and a natural-born musician with an almost unnatural vocal range and musical abilities – theirs was a fated partnership that began before they even met. Webb’s moving and often humorous account through performance and anecdotes and punctuated with photos, video and audio clips, offers a rare window into the process by which songs become radio hits. As a young teen in Oklahoma, Webb heard Campbell's voice on the radio and prayed that someday he would hear that voice sing his own compositions. Just a few years later, halfway across the country in Hollywood, Campbell hears a Webb composition on the radio. He recognizes the song’s potential and covers it, making it a Grammy Award-winning hit. The duo made the charts a few more times together before they would actually meet during the recording of an advertising jingle – and the rest is musical history.
JIMMY WEBB: THE GLEN CAMPBELL YEARS covers highlights of the 100+ recordings from the Webb/Campbell songbook in a multimedia experience of songs and stories. Webb has a treasure trove of gems about his collaborations with Campbell, pulling the audience in with various accounts each night of the personal side of generational touchstones like “Honey Come Back.” A centerpiece of this tour is when Webb trades verses with recordings of Campbell and adds insights to “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman” and more from various recent performances by the duo. Personal video and photos from Webb’s private collection and from other friends, mostly never-before-seen, bring back decades of shared musical memories. In addition, Webb peppers the evening with many surprises that demonstrate the singular talents of these two pop icons and the indelible mark their symbiotic craftsmanship made on American music, and all over the world. JIMMY WEBB: THE GLEN CAMPBELL YEARS follows the trajectory of these men’s careers as they relate to each other but also encompasses the emotions and experiences that the songs they produced together mean to their fans.
